CURRICULUM VITAE
|
On the 3rd March 1944, Mavis Birtles married Peter Baker in Newcastle-upon-Tyne, England. Both had served in the British Armed Forces during the War; Mavis as a medical secretary in the W.R.A.F., and Peter as a Captain in the Tank Corps of the Army. Their first baby, Michael, was born in January 1946 but died within a few days.
I was born in Yorkshire, England on a Sunday in November 1947 at The Buckingham Nursing Home, Cardigan Road, Headingley, Leeds 6. This was the time of the baby-boom and many other babies would have been born there in November; I know that another baby girl — Mary English — was born at about the same time as me.
Ten days later my parents brought me to my first home, 28 Spring Bank Crescent, Headingley, Leeds 6. Mr. & Mrs. Atkinson lived nearby, as did Mr. & Mrs. Foston and their son Derek.
I was christened at the church of St Michael & All Angels, Headingley on the 28th December 1947 by Rev. J A Littlejohn.
Apart from having whooping cough, not much else happened until about 1952, when we moved to 45 St Anne’s Road, Headingley. It was there, in February 1953, that my brother Paul Anthony Baker was born.
Also living in St Anne’s Road was my father’s cousin, Molly Brown née Baker, her husband Phil Brown, who was the Sports Editor at the Yorkshire Evening Post, and their son, my second cousin, Patrick Brown. Patrick is a few years older than me, and was possibly born in the early 1940s.
Were you born on the same day as me? I would love to hear from an ‘astrological’ twin. Were you born at the same place as me? Do you have any connection with the Buckingham Nursing Home, St Michael’s Church, Spring Bank Crescent or St Anne’s Road? Do you know what became of Patrick Brown? If so, please e-mail me at sandramidgley1@gmail.com
